Alliance members and committees have completed or are involved in the following KBEEA priority projects:

 

 

· Development of KBEEA educational program matrix – completed by members in summer/fall 2002, with results considered in the development of new programs and partnerships over the past 2 years.

 

· Collaborative development of environmental and cultural exhibitry to fill gaps and eliminate overlaps of exhibits in the Pratt museum and other local interpretive sites.

· Intertidal monitoring protocols for K – 12 teachers and students currently being developed and tested by CACS and local classrooms.

 

· Kachemak Bay Conference planning committee, formed in fall 2000, hired a Conference Coordinator and organized the 3^rd Kachemak Bay Science Conference April 12 – 14, 2002. 

 

· Coastweeks committee, formed in summer 2001, have planned marine education events in Homer for 2001 - 2005.

 

· Kachemak Bay EE program information for K – 12 teachers jointly mailed by Alliance member organizations (KBRR, CACS, Pratt, AMNWR) in 2001 and 2003.

 

· Master contact list for K-12 science teachers and school principals developed by KBRR with input from KBEEA members and shared with Alliance members (continually being updated).

 

· KBay Teachers List Serve developed and maintained for sharing student and teacher opportunities and information relating to coastal science – 50+ teachers currently receive list serve messages. Contact Carmen Field at 226-4659 to join this list serve.

 

· Grant collaborations - Alliance members have collaborated on more than 15 grants since 2000. The following collaborative grants have been funded:

1)  Science and Math consortium for Northwest School Grant:

     Targeting Excellence Training Workshop (held in Peterson

     Bay in June 2000)

2) Kachemak Bay Discovery at Pratt Museum

3) Kachemak Bay GLOBE Coastal Change Education Program

4) A Model for Regionally Integrated Environmental Education

     – EE Planning Tool for Teachers

    (this website is an outcome of this grant)

 

· Spring lecture series committee [CACS, AMNWR, KPC-KBC, KBRR, Pratt] organized spring natural history lecture series for the public (March – June 2000 and 2001). This lecture series was not offered in 2002 - 2004.

 

· Intertidal project partnerships  - KBRR staff assisted CACS with 1) video on Kachemak Bay intertidal ecology in 2000, 2) intertidal exclusion area research study in China Poot Bay in 2000, and 3) Coastwalk intertidal monitoring in 2000 and 2001. KBRR and CACS are currently collaborating on an intertidal biological mapping project combining existing Coastwalk community monitoring data with KBRR habitat mapping data.

 

· Intertidal assessment of citizen monitoring activities underway for Kachemak Bay and Lower Cook Inlet.

 

· Sharing of facilities and staff for science programs and teacher trainings sponsored by Alliance members.

 

· Joint sponsorship by Alliance members of events and workshops.
