 May 8 - 11, 2008: 16th annual Kachemak Bay Shorebird Festival in Homer

Junior Birder Discovery Lab at AK Islands & Ocean Visitor Center in Homer 

3 - 5 pm in AIOVC Lab Classroom

This fun, hands-on lab is free for aspiring birders age 5 – 10 and kicks off the Shorebird Festival weekend of birdwatching activities, culminating in awards of Junior Birder badges. Contact Carmen Field at 226-4659 or Marianne Aplin at 226-4619 for more information.

Kachemak Bay Research Reserve Discovery Labs at AK Islands & Ocean Visitor Center in Homer 

1 - 3 pm on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays during the summer

June 17 - August 7: 
Kachemak Bay Research Reserve Estuary Hikes at AK Islands & Ocean Visitor Center in Homer 

1 - 2 pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays during the summer
These guided 1-hour hikes along the Beluga Slough trail from Islands & Ocean to Bishops Beach are fun for the whole family and visitors of all ages. Contact Carmen Field at 226-4659 for more information.

September 27: National Estuaries Day - Beluga Slough & Lake BioBlitz at AK Islands & Ocean Visitor Center in Homer 

All day

Families, groups of friends, and individuals will be invited to form bio-teams, e.g. insect team, bird team, marine invertebrate team, fish team, plant team, etc. with local experts manning the collection tables at an on-site or nearby location. Such an inventory will give us a snapshot of the biodiversity in these associated wetlands. No cost. For more information call Carmen Field at 226-4659.
