KBRR’s Discovery Labs

Join us in the AK Islands & Ocean Visitor Center's lab classroom for these fun, hands-on science events happening from 3 - 5 pm on the 1st Wednesday of every month between October and February. Discovery Labs are free and appropriate for all ages. For more information, call Carmen Field at 226-4659.*Note for Teachers:Our Discovery Labs can be scheduled as post-public lab programs for student groups of 10 or more. We can usually leave our Discovery Labs set up for 2 days (Thursday & Friday) and offer teachers an opportunity to bring their classes into Islands & Ocean for a hands-on experience relating to the above topics. Contact Carmen Field at 226-4659 or Catie Bursch at 226-4661 for more information or to schedule a Discovery Lab program. 

18th Annual Kachemak Bay Shorebird Festival

May 6 - 9, 2010 in Homer, Alaska
Homer's annual celebration of birds and everything avian.
Theme: Partners Around the Pacific: Common Waters, Uncommon Birds
Keynote Speakers: Professional birder, artist, author and screenwriter Peter Harrison

Wednesdays, Fridays & Saturdays, 1:00 - 3:00 pm at AK Islands & Ocean Visitor Center

Join us in the AK Islands & Ocean Visitor Center's lab classroom for these fun, hands-on science events. Topics include marine biology, Alaska fish, and more. For all ages. Free.
 

KBRR's 2010 Summer Estuary Walks

Tuesday, June 22 - Thursday, August 12
Tuesdays & Thursdays, 1:00 - 2:00 pm at AK Islands & Ocean Visitor Center

Learn about estuaries, coastal wildlife and plants from a Research Reserve naturalist on these guided walks along Beluga Slough between the AK Islands & Ocean Visitor Center and Bishop's Beach. For all ages. Free.
  

National Estuaries Day 2010

Saturday, September 25 at the AK Islands & Ocean Visitor Center
Join Reserve staff for an afternoon of fun, family-oriented activities. A schedule of the day will be posted on our calendar in early September.
